Frequently Asked Questions
| Are there any ingredients in your products other than the ones listed on your website? I don't want to be surprised when I receive them and discover the products have chemicals listed on the label. Mexitan and Skedattle contains only the pure, natural ingredients listed on our website. Click on the "View Label and Ingredients" link in the product descriptions. Click here for a complete list of Mexitan ingredients What are the active ingredients in Mexitan sunscreens? Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide, which are not harsh chemicals--they are natural minerals derived from clay. Both are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as safe sunscreens. Zinc oxide has been used worldwide for over 75 years as a blocking agent to prevent excessive sun exposure. Unlike chemical sunscreens that absorb ultraviolet light, Mother Nature has provided titanium dioxide and zinc oxide which reflect and scatter both UVA and UVB rays away from the body--forming a physical barrier to shield skin, without irritating or clogging the pores. Mexitan SPF 8 Lotion contains 2.5% zinc oxide and 2.5% titanium dioxide. Mexitan SPF 15 Lotion contains 3.5% zinc oxide and 3.5% titanium dioxide. Our SPF 30 Lotion contains 6% zinc oxide and 6% titanium dioxide, and Mexitan SPF 50 Lotion contains 22.5% zinc oxide and 6% titanium dioxide. These lotions are hypoallergenic! A skin condition called Contact Dermatitus results in 5.7 million doctor visits per year in the USA. Sunscreen allergies are very common when using traditional chemical products. No, the titanium dioxide and zinc oxide used in Mexitan is micronized (NOT nanoparticles), with a coated variable particle size greater than 200nm but less than 500nm. (Nanoparticles are considered to be less than 100nm in size). This allows our sunscreen lotions to be more cosmetically appealing compared to coarser particles. The protection is less visible, yet remains on the skin's surface. Are Mexitan and Skedattle products eco-friendly? YES! Mexitan's chemical-free formula, with no fragrance, nanoparticles, parabens, mineral oil, or synthetically-produced compounds provides a biodegradable product that will not harm the environment. Click Here For Examples Of Chemical Ingredients In Other Popular Brands Our labels for all Mexitan and Skedattle products say "Biodegradable" and "Eco-Friendly" on the labels for acceptance in eco-nature parks and resort areas where biodegradable products are recommended. Even though some traditional sunscreen products may claim to be biodegradable, if all the ingredients are not 100% Natural these claims are considered to be false. We're a proud signer of the Compact For Safe Cosmetics! I love your products, but the sunscreen lotion sometimes leaves a mild white shine on my skin...is that normal? Mexitan sunscreen protection stays on the surface of the skin, unlike chemical sunscreens which absorb into the skin. On certain skin types, and when applied heavily, the zinc oxide and titanium dioxide sometimes has a noticeable white appearance, which is comforting to know that the all-natural, mineral sunblock is on your skin to reflect UV rays, rather than absorbing into your body and to your vital organs. The SPF 50 is our most concentrated lotion and may leaves a more visible white shield on your skin than the SPF 8, SPF 15, or SPF 30 formula. As Mexitan is all natural and contains no emulsifiers, be sure to shake well before application. It's not recommended to apply Mexitan lotion too heavily. For best results, apply a moderate amount so it'll rub in better. If applied too heavily there can be excess lotion that may appear to flake and crumble off. This is common and you can brush off any excess lotion and it will not diminish the UV protection. Mexitan is a "physical" sunscreen that works by reflecting UV rays away from your skin, as opposed to traditional chemical sunscreens which absorb UV rays. Is Mexitan sunscreen water resistant? Yes. While some of the excess lotion may appear to come off when swimming, the sunblock protection coating is visibly still on your skin. As with any sunscreen products, you should re-apply frequently and after swimming, perspiring, or towel-drying. For best results, apply as directed on the label. Is Mexitan sunscreen and Skedattle spray okay to use on children? Since these products do not contain harsh chemicals like traditional sunscreens do, Mexitan and Skedattle are considered to be safe for all ages, although it's always best to consult your pediatrician before applying any product to children under 6 months old. Is it safe to use Skedattle indoors and on bedding? Certainly! Since Skedattle contains no toxic chemicals, it's very safe to use indoors in areas where mosquitoes and other biting insects are bothering you. Why is Green Tea an important ingredient in Mexitan? Green Tea is effective in reducing sunburn, according to researchers at Case Western Reserve University and the dermatologist who headed the study. Numerous studies have indicated that it may prevent some cancers including those of the skin. Green Tea is a powerful antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals from UV radiation, and helps protect skin cells. Click here for more information about Green Tea and Sun Exposure With your sunscreen lotion and anti-bug spray, which should I apply first? It is recommended to apply Mexitan sunscreen lotion first. Allow it to dry for a moment, then apply Skedattle spray liberally as needed to keep bugs away. This will effectively protect your skin from UV rays as well as irritating insect bites when applied as directed. If I use one of your SPF sunscreen lotions, will I still be able to get a tan? SPF sunscreen lotions shield your skin from overexposure and reflect and scatter sunlight away from your skin. You may eventually develop a tan, although a minimal amount of UV rays can get through to your skin with physical sunscreen protection. A certain amount of sunlight is healthy for you, and if you already have a base tan, it can be effective to use Mexitan dark tanning oil for a limited period of time (WARNING--tanning oil does not contain sunburn protection) and when you believe you've had sufficient sun exposure then apply Mexitan SPF sunscreen lotion as directed to lessen additional sun exposure. By using this method you're more likely to enrich your tan, but be sure to use caution and limit your exposure to sunlight and avoid sunburn. After showering and periods of time in the sun, apply Mexitan Moisturizer regularly to help rejuvenate your skin cells and to give your skin a healthy, silky appearance. What is the expiration date of your products? Mexitan, with the natural antioxidant preservation qualities of Green Tea Extract and Vitamin E, and Skedattle, with the natural preservative properties of potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate, have a minimum of 2-3 years shelf life, and all product shipped is recently manufactured. Occasionally shake the bottles well to help it stay fresh, and for best results store product for prolonged periods at 50-80 degrees. Are your products available in retail stores? Throughout the USA there are numerous beach and surf shops, natural food stores, and salons that carry Mexitan products, as well as several Walgreens and various retail outlets in the Naples and Bonita Springs, Florida area.
