BassFan Test LabProduct: All natural insect repellent
Trade Name: Skedattle
Hypothesis: Skedattle is as effective at repelling (defined as eliminating bites) as common products containing mixed percentages of Deet.
Test Products: Skedattle, Off Insect Repellent w/Deet (two types), 100% Deet
Test: Three subjects, three variations rotating subjects.
Subject one: Non-protected
Subject two: Protected with test product, Skedattle
Subject three: Protected with mixed variations of commercial Deet products
Subjects were rotated on three successive test periods over 72 hours, 6 plus test hours. Subjects protected against bites by fabric excepting tips of fingers to elbows, back of neck.
Results:
1. Unprotected subjects received bite frequency (averaged over three tests) of 16 per hour.
2. Deet subjects received bite frequency (averaged) of 2.78 bites per hour.
3. Skedattle test subjects received bite frequency (averaged) of 0.16 per hour.
Conclusion: In this test, based on insect activity present at the time, and species present at the time, test product outperformed the hypothesis, proving to be more effective than common products. When tested in rainy conditions, Skedattle continued to repel and did not loose its effectiveness, whereas the other test products had to be reapplied for continued effectiveness. Test product was sprayed on fishing line, and found not to melt fishing line, as do commercial products containing Deet. Test product was sprayed directly onto fishing lure, and the finding was that the bass continued to hit the lure.
About this test: This was a practical test, and used practical test criteria vs. scientific test criteria. A practical test was developed based on the familiarity of the topic, and the simplistic nature of the results re: the subjects were bit or not bit.
Recommended: BassFan product rating 4 out of 4 for product.
